An 18-year-old guitarist who has played to audiences across Europe is coming to perform at Wanstead Library next week.

Alexandra Whittingham will be playing in Wanstead as part of Redbridge Music Society’s young musicians project on Tuesday April 26.

Miss Whittingham is currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music, having previously read at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester where she received the prestigious licentiate from the Royal Schools of Music.

She has travelled to Hungary, Germany, Czech Republic and France during her career, most recently playing with internationally-renowned classical guitarist Miloš Karadagli?.

The Spanish and classical player said: “My genres are particularly exciting because they’re not heard as often as other styles.

“It’s great to be playing an instrument that is still changing and evolving all the time.”

Miss Whittingham has to practice for four hours a day, as well as studying for her exams.

She added: “I’ve been very lucky with performance opportunities, but I love playing at all kinds of venues and hopefully bringing the classical guitar to much wider audiences.

“It’s great to see so many young players at the moment and I’d encourage anyone who wants to play to do so as there are loads of brilliant courses out there.”

Alexandra Whittingham will be playing at the Churchill Room in Spratt Hall Road from 8pm on Tuesday.

Tickets can be bought from David Bird, who can be contacted on 07511 888 520.
