London Mayoral candidate Zac Goldsmith visited Wanstead this weekend to answer questions on his plans for the capital.

The Conservative hopeful walked up and down High Street on Sunday (April 24), answering questions from supporters both young and old.

Wanstead teenager Chris Holmes said he was very impressed by Mr Goldsmith’s credentials.

The 17-year-old said: “I really enjoyed listening to what he had to say.

“I was impressed with how honest and principled Zac is on issues like noise pollution from London City Airport, the housing crisis, expanding transport infrastructure and ensuring London gets a better deal from the government.”

His 18-year-old friend Zashin Kazi added: “It was great to see Zac in Wanstead, his character really shone out to everyone there, he’s got real zeal and he’s clearly determined to help all Londoners.”

The visit was organised by Snaresbrook’s Conservative councillors and attended by others from across the borough.

Councillor Colin Cronin said: “It was fantastic to welcome Zac to Wanstead Village.

“It was great to share his promise to deliver for our great city with residents and local businesses and to give them the chance to ask their questions of him.

“It just shows how in touch Zac Goldsmith is with voters.”

Mr Goldsmith said: "My Action Plan for greater London invests in our transport system to keep places in Redbridge like Wanstead moving, without raising Mayoral council tax.

"I can deliver because I can get things done with Government to get the best deal for London. That’s how I will cut down roadworks.

“The roads are already busy but if Khan gets in and cuts investment we face roadwork hell."

Sadiq Khan said: "Redbridge faces an £860 fares bombshell under Zac Goldsmith’s plans to raise transport fares by 17 per cent over four years. Under my plans, they won’t pay a penny more in 2020 than they pay now.

"I have a deliverable plan to cut congestion, including encouraging car clubs, building more river crossings, and ensuring utility companies work together so they don’t have to dig up the same road more than once."

Zac Goldsmith will go up against Labour’s Sadiq Khan, Green Party hopeful Sian Berry, Liberal Democrat Caroline Pidgeon and several others in the London Mayor elections on May 5.
