Over 400 scouts gathered to renew their promises in honour of their patron saint on Sunday.

St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Church in High Road, Woodford Green was filled with scouts, beavers, cubs and explorers from the Epping Forest South district for their St George’s Day parade on Sunday (April 24).

The parade is one of the most important dates in the scout calendar, when packs and leaders unite to renew their promises and reflect on their achievements over the past year.

Awards were given to leaders who have volunteered for as long as 25 years helping scout packs across Wanstead and Woodford.

Guest of honour Snaresbrook councillor Suzanne Nolan also gave awards to youngsters who have shown commitment and community spirit over the past year.

The Presidents Trophy was awarded to the 17th Scout Group from Hermon Hill who have filled all their places after just six months.

Epping Forest South district commissioner Karl Levene said: “It was great to see so many beavers cubs, scouts, explorers and leaders on Sunday.

“I’m incredibly proud to be part of such a great district that puts so much effort into engaging and supporting young people in their personal development and empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.”
