A rising star at Leyton Orient ladies team joined pupils at Forest School to help kick of their Girls Football Week celebrations.

Leyton Orient WFC player Lydia Cooper visited Forest Preparatory School in College Place, Snaresbrook on Monday (April 25) to mentor a group of 60 girls as part of the FA’s girls’ football week.

She was helped out by members of the P.E. department and two of the school’s 1st XI team, Emma and Jess.

The initiative has been organised by the FA to encourage more schools across the country to set up girls’ football teams.

Forest director of sport, Mr Adams, said: “We have a number of talented girls who already play football for clubs outside of school and so I am sure it will become a very popular choice with our pupils.

“Girls’ football is one of the fastest growing sports in England, so it is only right that we offer a programme for our girls here at Forest.”

Independent Schools Association data shows the number of schools with girls' football fixtures has gone from 12 to 120 in the last five years.
