The Mayor of London visited Wanstead High Street last night.

Boris Johnson came to Wanstead for a question and answer walkabout, to talk about his legacy and show his support for the Conservative candidates in next week’s Mayoral and GLA elections.

London Assembly candidate for Havering and Redbridge Keith Prince said: “Boris’ biggest legacy is crime reduction.

“Redbridge has seen around a 30 per cent reduction in major crime, one of the best results in London, which is something we have Boris to thank for.

“He’s supported our rape crisis centre, which means we now provide those services for the whole of east London, and he’s revamped areas like Gants Hill and has protected green spaces throughout the borough.

“With Zac Goldsmith as his successor I have no doubt we’ll see huge benefits for Redbridge.”

Wanstead teenager Chris Holmes said: “I think Boris’ legacy is one that put London back on the maps as one of the greatest cities in the world – it was great to meet him.

“Our next Mayor, which will hopefully be Zac Goldsmith, desperately needs to address housing, especially in our area.”

Mr Johnson also took the time to visit the playground on Christchurch Green, which has recently closed to allow £100,000 renovations to take place.

Secretary of the Wanstead Playground Association, who has raised the money for the new playground, Nicola Jarratt said she was delighted the Mayor visited.

She said: “It was great to have the opportunity to show him where his £11,000 Mayor’s grant is being spent.”

Keith Prince will go up against Labour’s Ivana Bartoletti, Liberal Democrat Ian Sanderson, Green Party candidate Lee Burkwood and UKIP’s Lawrence Webb in the GLA elections on May 5.
