Viking reenactors are taking to battle in a celebration of Norse culture for a park’s springtime festivities.

More than 50 costumed enthusiasts will entertain crowds at the Highams Park Spring Festival on Sunday (May 8).

The Viking Store, in Wood Street, Walthamstow, is organising the dispute between rivalling clans and will be demonstrating the more cultural side to the bearded foes with food, craft, clothing and blacksmith stalls.

Organiser and The Viking Store owner, Max Bracey said: “The public will have a great time watching Vikings knocking nine bells out of each other.

“Vikings and Saxons is a part of our history, it’s a part of our blood and it’s a part of who we are.

“We’re keeping things small for the community this year but we hope to put on something bigger with the council next time.

“My dream would be to put a Viking runestone in Highams Park to create an awesome cultural destination.”

The event will be running from 11am to 4pm.
