South Woodford has a new Labour councillor after Lloyd Duddridge won the Roding by-election by over 500 votes.

The result was announced at around 3pm today (Friday May 6) at the ExCel centre in east London.

Mr Duddridge, who got 1,832 votes, said he predicted his win, which he claims was all down to his campaign team.

He said: "I knew we had an incredible team and that filled me with confidence from the beginning.

"Redbridge Labour is strong.

"Now I can get some sleep, watch Tottenham on Sunday and then get stuck in after that."

Liberal Democrat Councillor Ian Bond, who represents Roding with his colleague Cllr Gwyneth Deakins said he will be interested to see how a Labour representative fares in Roding.

He said: “I’m looking forward to working with Lloyd to get the issues facing the residents of Roding addressed.”

Conservative runner-up Ruth Clark got 1,254 votes, followed by the Lib Dem’s Rich Clare with 983, UKIP’s Jonathan Seymour with 216 and Green Party hopeful Barry Cooper with 169.

Candidate for the All People’s Party Marilyn Moore got 22 votes.

The overall turnout for the by-election was 52.4 per cent.
