Whipps Cross Hospital has been awarded almost £500,000 to improve its services for patients with dementia.

Barts Charity, which supports the hospitals of Barts Health NHS Trust, announced funding as part of a £3million round of spring grants.

The £496,800 grant to Whipps Cross will be used to create dementia-friendly environments and activity resources for dementia patients.

This will include the provision of appropriate social spaces to patients, the installation of artwork and signage and the funding of activity resources.

Dr Francesca Gliubich, Director of Grants at Barts Charity, said: “We are delighted to announce these awards that will deliver improved patient experience and provide opportunities for research across the spectrum of health-related challenges.”

“We are proud to support such innovative approaches to advancement in healthcare through projects of direct relevance to the population that Barts Health serves.”

Barts Charity aims to support innovative projects beyond the NHS remit, funding research, new equipment and community care.

Last year, the charity funded 50 projects across Barts hospitals, including a grant of over £10m to help create a world-class cardiovascular academic medical centre at the Barts Heart Centre.
