The founder of Chingford’s biggest annual summer event has battled through pneumonia this year but is “determined to keep the show on the road”.

On Saturday, June 11, tens of thousands of people young and old will gather in Station Road for the return of the Chingford Village Festival, sponsored by the Chingford Guardian.

The day of fun centres on and around Chingford Village Green, Chingford Assembly Hall, Saints Peter and Paul’s Church and Mornington Hall.

Now in its 22nd year, organiser and founder Irene Bull is recovering after being hospitalised with pneumonia in March.

She said: "It took its toll on me but I am feeling a lot better.

"I'm not 100 per cent but I'm determined to keep the show on the road."

Ms Bull chose ‘A Day in the Life of Music’ for the festival’s theme showcasing everything from bag pipes to live rock, pop and jazz music.

Ms Bull is also asking people to come and wave your flag for the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations and take part in ‘A Right Royal Tombola’ and ‘Name The Corgi’ competition.

Schools, shops, brigades, cadets and talented musical acts have jumped on board after more than 20,000 people made last year’s festival the biggest independently run event for miles around.

If any acoustic musicians are interested in playing or those wanting to set up a stall on the day, contact Ms Bull on 020 8559 4500 or by email irenebull@hotmail.co.uk.

The organiser is also asking for stewarding volunteers over 16-years-old to offer their time to make the day a success.
