Waltham Forest council will pledge to provide more than 300 homes for local residents and key public sector workers.

Homes, built on developments on its own land, available at “affordable” rent to current borough residents and workers such as teachers, police, firefighters and NHS staff.

Council leader, Cllr Chris Robbins, is set to announce plans at the local authority’s Annual General Meeting tonight (Friday, May 20).

Cllr Robbins said: “We want our residents and their families to be able to continue living here in Waltham Forest and that means building more council, affordable and private homes.

“We also want to support the people that make our communities safe, teach our children and care for the sick, and that is why we want to prioritise key workers on new housing developments as much as we can.”

New homes will be made available across three council-owned sites– Juniper House and Central Parade in Walthamstow and Coronation Square in Leyton.

In total, the developments will create up to 600 new homes, as well as leisure and health facilities and a new school.
