SIX men who lured their victim into a fake drug deal before robbing him and knife and gun point have been sentenced to a total of 64 years in prison.

Umar Anwar, 21, of Perrin Place, Chelmsford, David Stockley, 29, of no fixed address, Taylor Scott, 21 of Malvern Road, Leytonstone, Jovaughni Richards, 23, of Melon Road, Leytonstone, Ramone Celaire, 24, of no fixed address and Carl Knight, 33 of The Stow Harlow were sentenced at the Old Bailey today (Friday May 20).

They were convicted of intent to commit robbery, conspiracy to rob and possession of a firearm on May 6, but were cleared of attempted murder.

The jury heard the six men lured 26-year-old Rahul Samma into a fake drug deal in Draycot Road, Wanstead in the early hours of March 25 2015.

On getting in what he believed to be Mr Anwar’s car, he was threatened at knife and gunpoint by three of the men.

He managed to escape from the car despite being repeatedly assaulted.

When he was running back to his car, he was shot twice, leaving him with serious injuries to his eyes, face, throat, jaw, arm, and chest.

Despite his injuries, he managed to drive his car across George Green and down Wanstead High Street, finally stopping outside Papa John’s Pizza shop, where the emergency services were called.

Umar Anwar was sentenced to nine years in prison, while David Stockley, Carl Knight, and Ramone Celaire were given 11 years.

Taylor Scott was given a 10-year prison stretch and Jovaughni Richards was given 12 years inside, including one for another robbery that took place before he was arrested in relation to the Wanstead shooting.

Anwar’s 30-year-old sister Anisha, of Broadmead Court, Woodford Green, will be tried for perverting the course of justice on August 15.

She denies the charges. More details to follow.
