A councillor described as “Loughton through and through” by a colleague has been elected as town mayor.
Fairmead councillor Carol Davies will serve in the role for the next year, after being selected by others at Loughton Town Council.
Cllr Davies has represented her ward since 2008, and has lived in Loughton for most of her life.
She became involved in local politics after leading a campaign to try to save the Young Learners Nursery on the Epping Forest college development site.
Nominating her for mayor, councillor Chris Pond said she will serve the town well during her term of office.
Councillor Philip Abraham was appointed as deputy town mayor.
Born in India, Cllr Philip has lived in Loughton since 2000 and has represented Alderton ward since 2012.
