A school’s charity football match involving Arsenal star Carl Jenkinson raised money in memory of a classmate on Saturday (May 21).

Former student Peter Cross, of Davenant Foundation School in Loughton, died of leukaemia aged 20.

On Saturday a group of his friends who left in 2010 returned to the school, to play a charity match against Davenant’s current first team.

The Old Boys were organised and managed by Jenkinson.

The visitors won the “entertaining” match 3-1, although the Davenant team impressed the professional and his friends.

Head teacher Chris Seward said: “Carl and his friends came to see me and asked if they could have a game in memory of Peter Cross.

“They have such great memories of their school days, and in particular of Peter, and it was a pleasure to allow the event to happen.”

The match has so far raised £1,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust charity.

The former students hope to organise another game in Peter’s memory.
