The owners of a bar which saw at least eight violent incidents in less than a year have not appealed against strict new licence conditions.

Earlier this month, Epping Forest District Council restricted opening hours at Nu Bar in Loughton High Road, which is set to re-open this weekend.

The council also ordered the introduction of facial recognition technology, identification scanning and a ban on glassware if the venue remains open.

Owners Greene King had until yesterday (May 24) to appeal the decision, but told the Guardian it had accepted the conditions.

A spokesman said: “We can confirm we will not appeal the restrictions imposed by the Epping Forest District Council.

“We are working closely with the licensee to explore the opportunities available to the business.”

Essex Police called for the licence review after a man’s neck was slashed in a “disturbance” involving about 40 people.

As well as a new closing time of 0.30am – cut back from 2.30am – other conditions include a dress code to stop people hiding their identity, and staff training on issues such as underage drinking and drug abuse.

An incident register must also be kept and a restriction on the number of people in the smoking area will be introduced, all in a bid to reduce crime and antisocial behaviour.

This morning, the venue announced on its official Twitter account that it is re-opening this bank holiday weekend.
