A class of primary school children watched on while a teenager was stabbed on a Walthamstow street.

Police were called to Gosport Road, at the junction with Netley Road, at 1.52pm on Wednesday (May 25), following reports of a fight.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found a man in his late teens suffering stab injuries.

A class of children from Mission Grove Primary School, who were travelling between the school’s two sites, witnessed the incident.

A letter sent to parents by Mission Grove head teacher, Kate Jennings, said: “Unfortunately on a trip to the south site for class photos, children witnessed a stabbing on Gosport Road.

“Staff reacted quickly and got all of the children back to school within minutes and everyone was safe.

“We will be offering slots for children to speak to a counsellor if this is something that you [parents] would wish.”

London’s air ambulance attended the scene and the the victim was taken to an east London hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The incident was the second stabbing in the area in the space of 24 hours, after a man in his twenties was attacked in St James Street on Tuesday afternoon (May 24).

Detectives from Waltham Forest CID are investigating the case. Officers are yet to make any arrests in connection with the attack and enquiries continue.
