On the eve of Britain’s first EU referendum for more than forty years, the Guardian has gathered final responses before the big day.

In a letter to her constituents yesterday (June 21), Walthamstow’s Labour MP, Stella Creasy, sets out her case for remaining with the European Union.

“I know that Britain will survive outside of the European Union but I want more than survival for our community and our country, I want us to thrive.

“We have many products and people of which to be proud and I want them to be able to compete on a level playing field with our European neighbours, as well as around the world.

“That isn't just about trade, it's also about the rights being in Europe protects which prevent a race to the bottom and enable workers across Europe to be treated fairly.

“For Britain to be outside the EU, having to negotiate deals individually and without such 'muscle' in doing so is a gamble. I have confidence that Britain could negotiate a deal with anyone but concerns that any such deal would not be as beneficial as the ones we have now.

“So too, Walthamstow is a community still struggling with the impact of the last recession with many residents in debt because they are repaying debts taken out to manage at the time.

“Both the leave and remain camps agree that a recession is a likely consequence of Brexit but disagree as to how long this would persist. However, I believe the threat of any further economic shock to communities like ours could be substantial.

“I also look to the future challenges we face. Whether future jobs, addressing climate change, ensuring our national security or supporting international development. I believe Britain is stronger and better able to achieve its ambitions by getting stuck into working with other countries on this issues rather than leaving it to markets alone.

“The European Union is at its best a partnership that helps us do this- that's why I want us to stay and reform how it works rather than walk away. That's why I will be voting for Britain to remain in the European Union and will be seeking to persuade as many residents of Walthamstow as possible to join me in doing so too.”
