VULNERABLE people in Redbridge are being protected from rogue traders as part of a national crackdown.
A joint operation by the police, North East London Trading Standards and Redbridge Council officers last week saw 20 homes investigated for potential rogue traders across the borough.
The scheme is part of a national crackdown on people trying to trick vulnerable people into handing over large amounts of cash for unnecessary building work to their homes.
Last week’s exercise saw one resident save hundreds of pounds by ensuring his builder gave him a fixed quote and an investigation launched into another trader who demanded cash for repair work that was never carried out.
Cabinet member for civic pride, Councillor Ross Hatfull said: “Rogue trading is a UK wide problem, with vulnerable victims targeted for their life savings.
“These rogue traders often travel across boundaries to commit offences, highlighting the importance of working in partnership with several London boroughs to build a broad public awareness of this issue.”
