A GREENGROCER who has been trading for over 40 years has shut up shop for the last time.

Shoppers and passers-by were shocked to see JD Harvey greengrocers in Wanstead High Street closed last Thursday afternoon (June 23).

But after some confusion over the sudden closure, greengrocer Peter Smith announced his retirement.

Mr Smith and his team have been providing Wanstead with its fruit and veg for over four decades.

A sign outside the shop assures customers the site will still be used as a greengrocers, but the business will be changing hands.

The news comes six months after family butchers A G Dennis Ltd closed its doors in High Street after serving the community for 90 years.

There is currently no confirmed opening date for the new fruit and veg shop.
