Severe flooding did not stop one schoolboy from enjoying the watery fun outside his home.

Albert Goodwin, 9, found his home in Richmond Avenue, Highams Park, surrounded by water on Thursday (June 23) after a torrential downpour the night before.

Heavy thunderstorms caused flooding and travel disruption across the capital on the day people went to the polls to vote in the EU referendum.

Houses in Brooke Road, Walthamstow, were also flooded with one resident telling ITV News the water was up to her knees in her dining room.

Amanda Goodwin, 47, said her son was “hoping he would never have to go to school again” but unfortunately for him it remained unflooded.

Mrs Goodwin added: “Albert loved it, nobody was playing so he had it all to himself after school finished.”

Albert’s grandfather’s house, which is on the same road, had flooded so the family were going to check up on him.

It took a day for the water to be removed with someone from Thames Water working to clear the road.
