Community groups and charities in Waltham Forest are being urged to apply for a share of £100,000 in funding.

London housing association Peabody is offering grants of up to £5,000 to charitable causes across the capital though the Peabody Community Fund. The dealing for applications is July 22.

The last funding round supported the Waltham Forest Flames, a project to increase female participation in sport, which received £5,000.

Peabody’s Director of Programmes, Community Investment, Veronica Kirwan said: “This programme is a fantastic opportunity for those who work in our communities to access funding for their chosen activity or project to help make a real difference to the lives of Peabody residents.

“I hope there are a lot of groups in Waltham Forest who would benefit and who apply by July 22.”

Over £165,000 has been distributed over four rounds of the Community Fund so far. Further grant handouts are planned for later this year.

One group to benefit from a £5,000 grant was Musicus, which provides free access to musical instrument tuition that is unavailable in schools due to funding constraints.

Youngsters learn the basics of guitar playing, as well as how to play and perform as a group.

The project helped 45 young Peabody residents use their new-found musical skills to perform in a group concert staged for their community, families and friends.
