WANSTEAD Park will transform into an open-air theatre next month when two performances take over the Temple enclosure.
After the success of its first production in the park in 2013, outdoor theatre company Illyria will be returning to Wanstead in July to put on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Gilbert and Sullivan’s haunted house spoof Ruggidore.
Hundreds of theatre enthusiasts and park goers turned out to see The Mikado performed outside the Temple in August 2013 and organisers are anticipating another good turnout this year.
Beyond Wanstead, Illyria has been adapting plays and operas for outdoor audiences across the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and the United States since it was established in 1991.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream will hit the park on July 14 at 7pm and Ruddigore at 3pm on July 24. Both performances are suitable for all ages and picnics are welcome.
