Police have carried out raids in Walthamstow as part of a London-wide crackdown on drug dealing, violence and associated crime.

More than 100 officers were involved in the two day operation, codenamed Operation Dibbin, which was led by detectives from Wandsworth.

Operation Dibbin has seen officers carry execute 22 warrants at properties in Walthamstow, Tooting, Streatham, Tulse Hill, Mitcham, Southwark, West Norwood and Carshalton.

A number of addresses where raided yesterday evening (Tuesday, July 12) and in the early hours of this today (Wednesday, July 13).

So far, 21 people have been arrested for various offences and remain in custody at a south-west London police station pending further enquiries.

Items seized so far include quantities of Class A and Class B drugs, and approximately £1,000 in cash and three large combat knives and lock knives.

DSI Peter Laverick, of Wandsworth police, said: "By targeting drug markets and those who operate in them we can make a real and long term difference in creating the safest possible environment for our communities.

“In this case I believe the drug market has generated a fear of crime through its influence on violence in public places, anti-social behaviour and acquisitive crime, and this had to be dealt with decisively.

“Our aim is to disrupt and dismantle crime, and remind those intent on dealing drugs that we will locate them and prosecute them to eliminate the misery they inflict."
