Police are warning drivers to not let the urge to “catch them all” put themselves and others in danger.

Following two incidents in the county, Essex Police is telling people not to play Pokemon Go while driving.

The popular mobile game projects the “pocket monsters” onto the real world, which the player can catch and use to battle other players.

Players can also collect virtual items from Pokestops, at places like St Mary’s Church in Loughton.

This week, police warned against playing the game at the wheel after a 27-year-old man was spotted searching for the creatures last Thursday (July 21) while driving at about 20mph at Lakeside in Thurrock.

He could have points added to his licence or be told to go on a driver awareness course.

The day after, police officers stopped a car of teenagers searching for Pokestops in Basildon, as the driver no lights on at 11pm.

The female driver was not using a mobile phone while driving.

However, officers told her that if her passengers playing the game distracted her from driving and that driving fell below the required standard, it could amount to careless driving.

Adam Pipe, Essex Police’s casualty reduction manager, said: “Life isn’t a game.

“There are no rewind buttons, second chances and no start again buttons.”
