A TRENDY butcher’s shop has finally opened in Wanstead High Street, replacing its predecessor of 90 years.

The Ginger Pig’s Wanstead branch opened today (Friday, July 29) to crowds of people who have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the shop since it secured the site in April.

The chain replaces A.G. Dennis Ltd who retired as Wanstead’s family butchers after 90 years of service in January.

The Ginger Pig, who’s other London stores can be found in Hackney, Clapham, and Borough Market among other places, was established more than 20 years ago.

Starting with just three pigs on a near-derelict farm in north Yorkshire, founder Tim Wilson has seen his business grow into a 3,000-acre farm supplying meat across the country.

He said: “I’m so pleased with the look and feel of our new shop it’s been exciting to try something new.

“Given the site’s 90-year history as a butcher’s shop, it seemed necessary to do something a little different – we wanted to breathe new life into the shop while retaining a sense of its history on the high street.

“All references to the past have been presented in a contemporary way, and as a result the shop feels familiar, but also fresh and modern.”

All Ginger Pig’s meat is sourced from its north Yorkshire moorland farm and can be seen proudly displayed in the new window display in Clock House Parade.
