Parks, gardens and heritage sites in north and east London are celebrating receiving an official mark of quality.

A Green Flag, given by Keep Britain Tidy to honour the best green spaces in the country, will fly at the following places:

  • Arnos Park in Enfield
  • Broomfield Park in Palmers Green
  • Gunpowder Park in Waltham Abbey, Essex
  • Myddelton House Gardens in Enfield, north London
  • Tottenham Marshes in north London
  • Waltham Abbey Gardens in Waltham Abbey, Essex
  • Walthamstow Marshes in east London
  • WaterWorks Centre nature reserve in Leyton, east London

Waltham Abbey Gardens and Myddelton House Gardens also received Green Heritage Flags, which are given in recognition of the successful management of sites with historic importance.

Chief executive of Lee Valley Regional Park Shaun Dawson said: “It’s great news that we have been awarded these Green Flags for our wonderful open spaces, gardens and heritage sites.

“This national award is a great way to say thank youvto all our staff and volunteers for their hard work and dedication in helping to create and maintain these beautiful places.”

The awards take the number of Green Flag rated parks in Enfield to 10, as Arnos and Broomfield join Bush Hill Park, Trent Country Park, Jubilee Park, Oakwood Park, Town Park, Forty Hall Park, Grovelands Park and Pymmes Park.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Daniel Anderson, said “This is absolutely fantastic news. For the first time we have ten of our beautiful parks holding Green Flag Awards.

“Parks staff, along with the Friends Groups, continue to do a marvellous job in providing first rate facilities in our parks and open spaces across the borough for everyone to enjoy."
