An “unstoppable” mother has vowed not to let a broken leg get in the way of a charity event in honour of her disabled six-year-old.

Danielle Myers, who lives in Ongar, will likely be in a wheelchair for the fun day in September to raise money for Dylan, who is stuck in the mind and body of a nine-month-old baby.

The 38-year-old was carrying her son down the stairs at home when she fell through a gate and shattered a bone last week.

After an operation to repair the damage she now relies on a Zimmer frame, but doctors have warned it is unlikely to heal in time for the September 11 event.

She said: “Luckily Dylan wasn’t hurt at all, I protected him in the fall. I was in shock so I didn’t cry at first, but then I started screaming in pain.

“I rang my mother, a friend and my husband and they came over and I was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

“But I am absolutely not going to let this get in the way of the event. If I have to be pushed around in a wheelchair then so be it. I can still dictate what I want people to do, I still have my voice. I am unstoppable.”

The accident meant the family, including husband, Richard, 41, and daughter, Scarlett, 10, had to cancel a holiday to Marbella.

Dylan’s genetic condition is known as SWAN (syndrome without a name) and means he weighs under 10kg and has only ever said five words.

His organs are reversed, he has regular seizures, poor immunity, deformed legs caused by arthritis and never sleeps.

Mrs Myers, who had to give up her job in sales to care for Dylan, added: “I call him my Duracell bunny. He is the happiest little boy and is actually quite intelligent.

“Nothing stops him. Doctors didn’t think he would make it past five months, but he is a true fighter. He is our six-year-old baby.”

They hope to raise £50,000 at the event to build a sensory room in the Myers’ house, including garden equipment and AstroTurf to help with Dylan’s development.

It has been organised with help of friends Karen Young, Sophie Horton, Nikki Tyler, Sonia Farrow, Tara Williams, Jaclyn Dunne, Sandy DaCosta and Fran Myers – ‘the Dyalnettes’.

So far, they have only spent £15 of their own money on the event as sponsors, including Glyn Hopkin, have come forward to donate stalls and time.

It will be held at Abridge Village Hall in Ongar on September 11 from midday to 5pm and include fantasy football, a petting zoo, fairground rides and stalls.

Mrs Myers added: “It’s heart-warming to see how everyone’s come together to help us. We have some amazing raffle prizes too.

“Scarlett can’t wait and my husband is having his chest waxed to raise money for it.

“Organising it has been a good distraction. Everyone is so excited.”
