A MOTHER took part in a boot camp to raise money for the hospice that helps look after her severely-disabled son.

Janie Torrance from Wanstead regularly visits Haven House Children’s Hospice in Woodford Green where staff give her a break from looking after her 12-year-old son Dylan.

Dylan has a rare chromosome mutation called partial triplication 15, which means he suffers from severe epilepsy and is unable to walk and talk.

As part of her regular fundraising efforts for the hospice, Janie sacrificed any hope of a lie in this weekend (August 21) to be put through her paces at a “grueling” charity boot camp.

She was joined by 50 others who took part in the fitness challenge at South Woodford Gym and managed to raise £500 for the hospice.

Janie, of the Lake House Estate, said: “Haven House provides fantastic support for Dylan and it’s great to see so many people helping to raise funds for them.

“The boot camp was challenging, but great fun and hopefully it can happen again.”

Odell Lewis, who lead the boot camp along with his fellow personal trainers at Fit With Energy, said he was “delighted” to see such a high turnout and hopes to organise another event soon.

The hospice’s chief executive, Mike Palfreman, said: “We are really grateful to Odell and everyone else at Fit With Energy for putting on such a fantastic event.

“The funds raised will help us continue to make a difference for families like Janie and Dylan who need our support.”

Fit With Energy is due to visit Haven House this week to deliver its cheque and get the ball rolling for another boot camp later this year.
