Police are appealing for witnesses and information after an arson attack at a residential property in Walthamstow.

Officers were called at around 2.15am this morning (Tuesday, August 23), to respond to reports of a fire at an address in Shernhall Street.

Police and London Fire Brigade attended and a window at the address that was alight was extinguished. No-one inside the property at the time of the blaze was injured.

Following an investigation by firefighters, it is understood the fire was caused by an accelerant placed on the window which was then set alight.

Detectives at Waltham Forest Borough are investigating the incident as arson with intent to endanger life.

Witnesses that have spoken to police so far have reported two men in the area that had seen the fire and then shouted to alert people to what was happening.

Officers are keen to speak to these two men about what suspicious activity they may have witnessed.

The only description officers have of the men at this time is that they are both black.

Detective Sergeant Ben Voss, from Waltham Forest Borough CID, said: "If you are one of these two men described in our appeal, please contact us.

“You may have information, no matter how small you think it is, that could assist our investigation.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone else in or around the area at the time of the incident that hasn't already spoken to police."

Any witnesses or anyone with any information that could assist the investigation can call Waltham Forest CID via the 101 non-emergency number.
