A FIRE has broken out at a shop, damaging a storeroom and evacuating nearby flats.

Chigwell Road in Woodford Green is currently (Tuesday, August 30) blocked both ways after a fire broke out between Green Walk and Roding Lane North this morning.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) sent four fire engines to The Co-op store in Chigwell Road at 6.56am.

A LFB spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a fire at a building in Chigwell Road, Woodford Green, at 6.56am.

"Part of a storeroom in the ground floor shop was damaged by fire.

"Three people left the shop before the arrival of the Brigade. Another 10 people were evacuated from an adjoining shop and five adults and two children were evacuated from first floor flats."

There have been no reported injuries so far and the cause of the fire is still unknown.

There are traffic jams to Snakes Lane East and Cross Road, and Manor Road to Tomswood Road.

The 275 and W14 bus routes are also being diverted.
