THE SHADOW Chancellor, MP John McDonnell, will speak at an event this Friday.

Waltham Forest Momentum will host the MP at its Keep Corbyn Rally.

Mr McDonnell recently called for an overhaul of the honours system and for Sir Richard Branson, whom he called a “tax exile”, to be stripped of his knighthood.

Organiser Chris Ford, from Chingford, said he agreed with Mr McDonnell.

He said: “David Cameron’s discredited honours list was awarding people for political support.

“We have people living the high life abroad and getting awards back here.

“That simply is wrong.”

Mr Ford called for the party members to back Mr Corbyn in the leadership race, saying: “This infighting is bad for the democracy of the Labour Party and needs to stop so we can fight the Tories.”

At a recent meeting of Walthamstow Constituency Labour Party, members voted 2:1 in favour of Mr Corbyn over rival MP Owen Smith.

Labour party member Cannon Steven Saxby said: “The result of the vote, 2:1 for Corbyn, was exhilarating.

“Walthamstow voted for a new kind of politics.”

The deadline for ballot papers to be returned is September 21 and the result is expected to be announced on September 24.

The Waltham Forest Momentum's Keep Corbyn Rally event will take place at 7.30pm at St Barnabas, Foster Hall in Wellesley Street, Walthamstow on Friday September 2.
