GREEN-FINGERED enthusiasts are spending some quality in nature as the borough readies itself for its week-long food growing festival.

Cultivate Waltham Forest is hoping to spark a generation of gardeners with several events in Chingford showing the joys of growing your own.

Each event will help you utilise your food growing spaces, whether they are limited to window sills, doorways, or stretch across an urban garden.

Between 2pm and 3pm on Friday (September 9), the Hawkwood Plant Nursery, in Hawkwood Crescent, Chingford, is opening its doors for a free food growing lesson.

The team at OrganicLea, a not-for-profit cooperative growing and selling food from the nursery, will show how it produces its variety of fruits and vegetables.

A Sunday Family Club at the Learning Lodge in Pimp Hall Nature Reserve, off Kings Road, Chingford, is getting children and their parents connecting with food and nature, from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday (September 11).

The free event, run by the team at the Hornbeam Centre in Walthamstow, is rounding off this year’s Cultivate festival with a culinary exploration of the seasonal delights grown in Chingford.
