THE OLYMPICS might be over but three generations of a family are keeping the spirit alive with their knitting creations.

Sam Chaplin, who works as a primary school teacher, has knitted a collection of Olympic athlete dolls with her aunt Sue Haggerty and her grandmother Mary Haggerty.

The 24-year-old said the reaction form passersby who come across the display in the front garden in Howard Road, Walthamstow, is comical.

She said: “My aunt is very creative and she started it.

“We did it for the London Olympics and for special occasions such as Halloween and Christmas.

“All the people like seeing it when they stop by. They are always laughing.

“They tell us they like it and they send us postcards.

“Most people find it funny but there are some that think we are mad.”

Some of the knitted dolls for the Rio Olympics include a basketball player, an athlete performing the long jump, a rowing team and samba dancers at the opening ceremony.
