A POST-NATAL depression survivor is helping others overcome their mental health problems with the power of crystals.

Sonya Robertson, 37, is hoping to help mothers beat post-natal depression in her new crystal shop, The Sage Son, in Village Arcade, Station Road, Chingford.

The mother-of-three has always lived in Waltham Forest and knew Chingford was the right place for her first bricks and mortar shop, which opened on Friday (August 26).

Miss Robertson said: “There is a lot of interest in crystals in Chingford, which is why I chose here more than anywhere else in London.

“I really think that Chingford is quite an uplifting and positive place.

“There is a lot of enlightenment, not just in Chingford, but across the world.

“People are waking up.”

The accredited crystal healer admits she is “not an expert” and will always advise people to see their doctor for mental health problems.

But as a mother who overcame post-natal depression and through her experience as a mental health carer, Miss Robertson is trying to restore the balance in people’s lives.

She added: “I look at all areas of life, emotionally, physically, spiritually and mentally.

“By using the crystals and seeing what resonates with people, I see what works and they see what works for themselves.”

Miss Robertson began opening up about her post-natal depression when she started the Amber Ray Project in 2013, a community drive dedicated to getting children reading.

She secured nearly £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to help families in the Priory Court estate in Walthamstow, where she lived for several years after giving birth to her first son in 2001.

She said: “I knew I wanted to do something that helped low income families and something that gave mums the opportunity to be involved in activities with their children.

“Funnily enough it was one of the reasons why I opened up.

“In a sense the crystal shop is totally different but in some way it has evolved into this.”

Her two teenagers, aged 14 and 15, are turning The Sage Son into a family-run business, with her eldest even helping with the accounts.

The shop is open from 9.30am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and you can also find Miss Robertson at the North Chingford Village Market at the first and third Saturday of each month.

She will be running meditation tuitions, crystal discovery and positivity workshops once a week on different days, check in store and online for further details.
