Cricketers from the Vatican are set to take on a team of cricketers drawn from faith groups across east London.

Walthamstow Cricket Club will host a 20 over game between an east London multi-faith XI and the Vatican’s team, St Peters Cricket Club on Sunday September 11.

The game is the first of St Peters's “Light of Faith” tour, which will see the team play several games in London and the south east this month.

Walthamstow Cricket Club secretary, Jack Wingrove, said: “This game is a fantastic opportunity for the many different groups in east London to come together and celebrate the diversity and uniqueness of our community.

“The clubhouse and bar will be open throughout the day and we hope to see many visitors and spectators as possible.”

The Vatican team was established in 2013 by Australia's ambassador to the Holy See, John McCarthy.

Made up of priests, deacons and seminarians recruited from India, England, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, the club aims to create an inter-faith dialogue in countries where cricket is popular.

The East London Faith XI will take on St Peters Cricket Club at Walthamstow Cricket Club, in Greenway Avenue, from 11am on Sunday, September 11. All are welcome to attend.
