Big changes have been proposed for some constituencies in Epping Forest.
As the government seeks to cut the number of MPs by 50, the Boundary Commission for England released a report yesterday (September 13) proposing changes to a number of seats.
With the commission seeking to cut the number of Essex seats from 18 to 17, a new Harlow constituency would include North Weald Bassett ward and Moreton and Fyfield, moving to Robert Halfon’s seat from his Conservative colleague Sir Eric Pickles.
Sir Eric’s Brentwood and Ongar constituency would see “substantial change” to help surrounding areas reach their population quotas, with two wards transferred to South Basildon and East Thurrock.
Four wards currently within the Saffron Walden constituency would be added to Brentwood and Ongar.
The commission announced no changes to Epping Forest, held by Conservative MP Eleanor Laing since 1997.
