A new scheme to promote healthy living for young people has been launched in secondary schools across Waltham Forest.
The Youth Heath Champions programme is a national initiative, training youngsters to act as “peer mentors”, working to encourage their peers to take part in activities and promote good health.
Since July, a total of 60 Youth Health Champions from school across the borough have been trained to take part in the scheme.
Pupils from seven schools across Waltham Forest have gained a Level 2 qualification for completing the course, the equivalent of a GCSE.
Melanie Cumpana, a student at Rushcroft Foundation School in Chingford, said: “Youth Health Champions was an amazing opportunity.
“The two days were very interesting and you can develop your presentation skills and improve your teamwork and confidence”
