GREEN FINGERED competitors across the borough are celebrating this week after their gardens were deemed “fit for the Queen”.
Hundreds of amateur gardeners in Redbridge took part in this year’s Redbridge in Bloom competition, with the “fit for the Queen” theme coinciding with Her Majesty’s 90th birthday earlier in 2016.
Now in its 21st year, the competition aims to get people out in their gardens and taking pride in their community.
Among this year’s winners were Roding Primary School in South Woodford, who bagged best school gardening project and residents of Frating Crescent, Woodford Green, who were awarded best communal garden.
Redbridge cabinet member for civic pride Cllr Ross Hatfull said all the gardens were “beautiful” and “a real credit to the borough.”
The full list of winners is as follows:
Best Front Garden – Kenneth Goldsmith, Hainault
Best Container Garden – Mrs Milly Rauf, Ilford
Best Public House – Prince of Wales, Ilford
Best Sheltered Housing/Community Display – Stoneleigh Court, Clayhall
Best School Gardening Project – Roding Primary School
Best Communal Gardens - Frating Crescent, Woodford Green
