PEOPLE were turned away from a crowded Mini-Holland meeting in Chingford with around 250 residents filling a town hall to debate the plans.

Queues extended across The Green in Chingford as people tried to get a seat in Mornington Hall on Wednesday night (September 21).

At the meeting, people had the chance to discuss the current Mini-Holland consultation, which has been extended to Monday, October 3.

Deputy council leader Clyde Loakes said the consultation would run longer due to the popular demand shown at well attended drop-in sessions.

He added: "We are keen to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to comment on the proposals, so I urge residents to respond if they have not done so already."

In the consultation, Endlebury Road in Chingford, has been earmarked for a potential road closure at the busy junction with The Ridgeway.

Many people living in the area fear the closures could create more rat-running in residential roads nearby.

Earlier this month, dozens joined the MP for Chingford and Woodford Green, Iain Duncan Smith, to protest the Endlebury Road closure.

The council has asked the public to view the proposals online and comment their opinions before the consultation ends on Wednesday (September 28).

In the online proposals, a section marked western cycle route, which outlines new bicycle lanes from Cavendish Road to Station Road, is more information regarding the Endlebury Road closure.

It proposes an introduction of peak time parking restrictions between the Heathcote Road and Horsley Road junctions.

These would be enforced from 7am to 10am and 3pm to 6pm, Monday to Friday, in a bid to provide more space for cyclists.

It is hoped these restrictions would allow vehicles to share the road and reduce the potential for collisions.

The council proposes it would help pedestrians and cyclists cross the road by improving visibility and help improve traffic flow during peak times.

Cycle lanes would be installed at this location with cars only allowed to park outside the peak times.
