Waltham Forest Trades Council is set to stage a talk on the future of the Labour Party, following the re-election of leader Jeremy Corbyn.
Mr Corbyn saw off rival Owen Smith in a poll of party members and supporters on Saturday (September 24) by a margin of almost two to one.
The Labour leader has promised to give more decision-making power to rank-and-file Labour members after the vote gave him, what he described as a “very strong” mandate to lead.
At Labour’s annual conference in Liverpool, London mayor Sadiq Khan warned that a failure to unite after the bruising leadership contest could kill off the party forever.
Waltham Forest Trades Council, which represents 25 affiliated unions in the borough, will discuss how the vote will affect Labour, trade unionists and local people.
Speakers include Manuel Cortes, general secretary of the Transport Salried Staffs’ Association, Linda Taaffe, Waltham Forest Trades Council secretary and Tom Taylor, of Leyton and Wanstead Labour Party.
Time will also be allocated for audience members to join in the debate.
The meeting takes place at Leytonstone Ex-Serviceman’s Club, on Monday October 10 from 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend.
