Leytonstone firefighters are set to welcome the public to their station as part of London Fire Brigade’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

Firefighters will open the doors of the station to families between 11am and 4pm on Sunday, October 9, and give them an insight into the work they do day-to-day.

Children and adults alike will have the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat of a fire engine and pretend they are a firefighter for the day.

Youngster can try on firefighters’ uniform, including a real helmet, and enjoy activities such as face painting.

Visitors will also have the chance to look around vintage fire appliances including a turntable ladder, showing how technology has changed over the past 150 years.

A display of vintage firefighting uniforms throughout the Brigade’s history will also be available to see.

Refreshments will also be available on the day.

The event has been organised in association with Playmobil, which is helping London Fire Brigade stage 63 events at stations across the capital to celebrate its 150th anniversary.
