A customer had to make himself sick after he was sold raw chicken at an Asda hot food counter.

Lee Cave bought four peri peri cooked chicken thighs from the deli in Asda in Marshall Road in Leyton on Thursday morning.

He then sat outside in his van outside to eat them.

But when the 36-year-old carpet fitter from Chingford bit into the chicken he was shocked to find raw meat.

To add insult to injury he said Asda offered him a £2 gratuity voucher, which he refused to accept.

He said: “When I started eating one chicken thigh it was plain raw.

“I took it back to the shop and they didn’t seem that bothered.

“They didn’t want me to take the chicken away but I told them I was keeping it.

“There were other customers in the queue and they looked disgusted that this was being sold and it could make people very ill.

“They gave me a refund and they offered me a £2 gratuity but I told them I don’t want it.

“I was fuming. I had to deliberately make myself violently sick so I wouldn’t get ill.”

The deli counter in Asda was closed today, Friday October 30.

A spokesman for Asda said: "Our hot food counter has now been reopened after we voluntarily suspended the service to make sure that it met the high standards we always require and that our customers expect from us."
