A CANCER PATIENT got to meet one of the best tennis players of all time when he dropped in to his hospital last week.

Former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash popped into Queen’s Hospital in Romford to unveil its new £500,000 radiotherapy CT scanner.

After he cut the ribbon the sporting legend got to meet 69-year-old Mike Dewison who will be the first to benefit from the new equipment.

Pat said: “I’m a patron of a male cancer charity that has provided equipment for the trust’s radiotherapy department, so I was aware of the wonderful work the team do.

“When they asked me to come and officially open the new CT scanner, I was more than happy to support them because I applaud this investment in new technology, which will ensure cancer patients get the best treatment available.”

The new scanner will be used by Redbridge patients and many others treated at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust (BHRUT) two sites in Romford and Goodmayes.

Mike said he was delighted to meet Pat and be the first to use the CT scanner.

He said: “I’m nearing the end of my treatment now.

“The radiotherapy staff have been fantastic so it’s great they’ve got this new equipment.”
