NEIGHBOURS are being asked to have their say on plans to build two new schools on the former Thames Water Depot site in Leyton.

Proposals to create a new primary and secondary school on the site by September 2017 were unveiled in January this year.

If plans are approved, a secondary school, known as the Barclay Secondary Free School, could provide some 1,400 places for students by 2023.

The site will also be home to the Athena Academy, a new two-form entry primary school.

The new schools will be managed by the Lion Academy Trust and the REAch2 Academy Trust respectively.

Consultations will now be held with residents later this week, where detailed proposals for the site will go on display.

The academy trusts intend to submit a planning application to Waltham Forest council this autumn.

If successful, the schools will open in temporary facilities on the site in September 2017 with permanent modern school buildings to follow by 2018 and 2019.

The Barclay Primary School in Walthamstow, run by Lion Academy Trust and Woodside Primary Academy in Walthamstow, operated by REAch2, have both achieved “outstanding” Ofsted ratings.

Consultation everts will take place at Lee Valley Ice Centre, in Lea Bridge Road, on Thursday October 6 between 4pm and 8pm and at the WaterWorks Centre, Lammas Road, on Saturday October 8, from 10am to 2pm.
