CHILDREN got a taste of what playground life was like four decades ago at their school's anniversary celebrations.

Pupils from Gwyn Jones Primary School, in Hainault Road, Leytonstone, played hopscotch, snakes and ladders and other 1970s inspired games.

Former pupils were also welcomed back to help celebrate the school's success over the years, and look back at days gone by.

Welfare Officer Debbie Moore, who attended the school as a child, said: “Education is important but I feel it is also important for the children to make memories.

“They all had so much fun it will be nice for them to look back and remember that day.

“We brought out some games form the 70s like snakes and ladders and hopscotch to give them a taste of what we used to do back in the day.

“It was also great to have past pupils back to meet the teachers and to tour the school and everyone enjoyed themselves.”

The school’s 400 pupils from age five to 11 also helped build a mosaic which will go on display in the school.
