Work to reshape roads in Walthamstow town centre will begin next month in a bid to improve traffic flow.

Disruption is expected from November 1, while plans are carried out to reshape the “Walthamstow gyratory”, the area around Hoe Street, Selborne Road and Walthamstow Central station.

Work includes widening of the bus station exit, the creation of a new taxi and loading bay outside Tesco Express on Selborne Road and the removal of traffic islands.

The renovations, being carried out by Waltham Forest council and TfL, are expected to be completed by the end of December.

Both Hoe Street and Selborne Road will be open as usual, however during the works lanes will be rearranged and traffic management signs and cones will be in place to direct traffic.

The council has warned disruption to journeys during the time should be expected.

The roadworks will form part of larger plans to transform the area, which, subject to approval, will take place from January 2017 to summer 2018.

The longer-term proposals for the area include a new public space between the tube and bus stations, a railway bridge and a simpler road layout.
