JUNGLE gyms, climbing frames, and a problem solving water feature are all in store for the lucky kids of a primary school.

Parkside Primary School, in Wellington Road, Chingford, celebrated the launch of its new playground and classroom on Friday (October 7).

The nursery children, with the mayor, Peter Herrington in tow, gave a thorough test of the new equipment, including a water feature which will test their mathematical problem solving.

Assistant head teacher, Desiré Lubbe, said the playground has been an instant hit with the kids, who cannot wait to get out of class and have fun using it.

She added: “It is not a playground, it is an outdoor learning environment teaching them mathematics and physical development at the same time.

“The way we designed it was to encourage children to be imaginative.

“From the sea monsters to the sharks we hope it will make the children create stories for themselves.

“We put a big emphasis on writing here at Parkside so we wanted to develop their skills early on.”

The new classroom for the reception classes will help meet the borough's demand for school places.
