Rising jazz and soul singer Georgia is releasing her new EP The Girl, which features Dave Swift, the bass player for Jools Holland’s R&B Orchestra, The 20-year-old, who is from Loughton, has had a passion for music all her life as there was always music playing when she was growing up and she always connected to it.

Georgia explains: “I played piano from a young age and developed an interest in soul and motown as I was growing up.

“My music is jazz and soul inspired, with a hint of ska. I have a band called The Vintage Youth, which consists of a keyboard player, a double bassist, a drummer and a brass section and me on the vocals.

“My band features on my EP and I also play with Jools Holland’s double bassist. It was amazing to work with him, as he is a really cool guy.

“I was just expecting to record a couple of tracks with him but he has been very supportive and also gigs with us regularly and comes to watch us. He is very supportive, which is really great.”

Georgia admits she has been overwhelmed that her vintage style of jazz has attracted interest from Janice Long from BBC Radio 2 on her ‘Janie Loves’ spot, as well as Dan Roberts and Mark Forrest on BBC London and Jame Whale on BBC Kent.

She says: “It has been really great to get my work recognised by BBC radios. The Girl was the first song I wrote, so for it to reach radios is quite mad.

“My jazz interest has only come around in the past few years, when I got into musical theatre and I don’t really come from a musical family. My dad used to play the guitar when I was younger but that was about it.

“I got into the music industry by gigging constantly and did a national singing competition called Singstar and it all took off from there.

“I’ve got a lot of exciting shows coming up in east London. I like playing in Shoreditch and have played at Apples and Pears before, but I’ll also be headlining at the Underbelly on October 20.

“I’m at the Bull’s Head in Barnes, on October 15 with the full brass band.”
