THE GREAT Weight Debate is heading to Redbridge after it was revealed one in five children in the borough start school overweight or obese.

After statistics showed there are more overweight children in London than New York, Paris, Madrid and Sydney, councils in London got together to tackle the capital’s child obesity crisis.

The Great Weight Debate is a London-wide effort to get parents, teachers and health professionals together and help its children shed excess weight.

Working with NHS England, The Mayor of London and Public Health England, the project hopes to reduce the potential of childhood weight-related health problems like high blood pressure, joint pain and mental health issues.

The Great Weight Debate roadshow is coming to Redbridge next Tuesday (October 25) where people will be able to share their ideas on how to tackle the borough’s childhood obesity problem.

Redbridge Council’s cabinet member for health and social care Cllr Mark Santos said: “We are pleased to be hosting the GWD roadshow in Ilford.

“One in five of our children start school overweight or obese, so please come along and get involved.

“We are very keen to hear residents' views on how we can work together to tackle obesity, so let us know what you think and fill in the online survey.”

You can fill in the survey online at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/GWD2016 or head to Ilford High Road, outside Argos between 9am and 1pm on October 25.
