THE EAST END’s dark past will be uncovered at a spooky Halloween special at the Wanstead Tap next week.
Opera singer Caitlin Downie will be singing a range of songs about London’s murky and mysterious history at her evening of ‘dark delights’ on October 29.
The 29-year-old, who first learned to sing when she was at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary school, is promising ghost stories alongside her Halloween numbers.
She said: “We decided we wanted to do a spooky Halloween evening, but didn’t want it to be just the usual pop stuff like Michael Jackon’s Thriller.
“We’ve got a lot of scary stories in east London’s history, with Jack the Ripper and the Whitechapel murders, so it’s going to be a good one.
“It’ll be a nod to the gothic, with a few pop, jazz and cabaret songs mixed in too.”
Ms Downie, who has lived in Aldersbrook all her life, also performed at the Edinburgh Fringe this summer.
She said: “I was really chuffed my shows sold out, it was an exhausting but amazing experience.
“I made some great friends too, so I will definitely consider going back.”
Doors open for Dark Delights at The Wanstead Tap on October 29 at 7.30pm.
