No time frame has been set for services to return to a doctor’s surgery in Walthamstow, which was destroyed by fire last week.

Claremont Medical Centre, in Claremont Road, was gutted by a blaze which tore through the property for more than five hours on Saturday (October 15).

Part of the first floor of the building was damaged by fire and the roof was gutted in the blaze. The building has been undergoing extension work at the time of the incident.

The centre has been closed, but patients will be able to see their GP and use other services at Firs Medical Centre, in Stephenson Road until further notice.

A spokesperson for NHS Waltham Forest Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said: “Owing to a fire at the weekend, the building that housed Claremont Medical Centre cannot be used.

“Both the GP practice and the phlebotomy services have been relocated to other sites. Patients have and are being informed.

“Assessments are still taking place to determine when services can move back to the Claremont site, but in the meantime GP practice patients are temporarily being seen at the Firs Practice, where they can still see their GP who will be working from the site.

“Barts Health Trust advise that patients who attend the blood testing service that usually operates at the Claremont Practice are encouraged to attend Whipps Cross Hospital.

“Other blood testing sites are also available across the borough.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
